PROJECTS

The Projects Unit of the Ministry of Transport and Works has the strategic objective of carrying out infrastructure development works such as bridge construction, redesigning dangerous junctions, and the erection of critical infrastructure.

The Unit is currently staffed by three officers and manages over $12 million each year in projects. It also provides procurement support to other projects throughout the Government.

The Project Unit manages several major projects and programmes that are in the stages of planning or execution. These include:
Internally referred to as the CAF Project, this US$50/BDS$100 million project is funded by the Bank of Latin America /Corporacion Adina de Fomento (CAF) under its Sector Wide Approach Programme to support the Land Transportation Sector.
The Ministry has embarked on a programme using the new technology of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC). This is the process by which roads are paved using concrete and applied with equipment designed for that purpose.
Under this project, aging and deteriorating highways, roads, culverts and bridges that are mainly affected by landslides in the Scotland District of Barbados will be rehabilitated or reconstructed.
