Road rehabilitation at Chance Hill and Jemmotts Road in St. Lucy is steadily progressing under the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Project.
The extensive roadworks in the two adjoining roads include replacing water mains, road reconstruction, and drainage improvement. Work is executed using a coordinated approach comprising MTW’s contractor, The China National Complete Import Export Corporation Limited (COMPLANT), its subcontractor, Infra Construction Inc., and the utility companies.
The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) started with mains replacement in the first quarter of the year. As that work advanced, COMPLANT and Infra Construction Inc. began to simultaneously construct box drains, kerb and slipper, and suck wells to improve drainage in the area. Minor road widening was also done in sections that were less than 4.8 metres. Some delays occurred due to rainy weather throughout the construction period.
To date, BWA is in the progress of reconnecting households to the new water main, while COMPLANT and Infra Construction Inc. are continuing to build box drains and kerb and slipper. Once completed, the road’s surface will be repaved.
While the construction is ongoing, access to residents and public transportation has been maintained. However, if either Jemmotts Road or Chance Hill are temporarily closed, the other will remain open as both roads connect via a loop and provide access to the main road and neighbouring communities.
In addition to Chance Hill and Jemmotts Road, Animal Flower Cave Road in St. Lucy is also benefitting from road reconstruction and drainage improvement under the Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Project. Several other roads in the northern parish have also been resurfaced under the Accelerated Mill and Pave Programme earlier this year. As the Ministry continues to improve roads and drainage in St. Lucy and throughout the country, MTW thanks road users and residents within construction zones for their patience and cooperation.
