Road reconstruction of Highway 2 from Hangman Hill to Bridgefield Village starts Monday, April 7, 2025

The long-awaited road reconstruction of Highway 2 from Hangman Hill to Bridgefield Village in St. Thomas will start on Monday, April 7, 2025.

The project, which is being carried out by Infra Construction Inc. for the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW), is expected to continue for approximately 90 days, subject to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Construction will be carried out daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will include excavation of the roadway, the installation of sidewalks, upgrades to drainage, and the repaving of the road.

Road users are advised that the road will be closed at Rugby Plantation, and at the junction of Highway 2 and Hangman Hill. Motorists travelling east from Jackson to Bridgefield on Highway 2 will be diverted at the Lester Vaughan School towards Shop Hill. Vehicles travelling west from Hopewell Plantation to Bridgefield on Highway 2 will be detoured onto Hangman Hill towards Shop Hill.

Preparation for the reconstruction has been underway for some time, with surveys and designs being done. Over the past year, The Barbados Water Authority also carried out mains replacement and upgrades in the area. It is currently working on lot service connections on some side roads. Hangman Hill was temporarily resurfaced late last year as this road will be a major diversion route during the roadworks. Additionally, in February 2025, Infra Construction Inc. dug test pits as an investigatory step ahead of the construction. The reconstruction of Hangman Hill to Bridgefield Village marks the first phase of the MTW’s comprehensive plan to reconstruct Highway 2 from Cane Garden to Bridgefield.

The work is being done under the Ministry’s CAF Roads Programme, which is funded by the Development Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean. Ongoing projects under the CAF Programme include the construction of Prior Park Road in St. James, Highway D from Content to Shop Hill, St Thomas, and Rock Dundo, St. James to Gibbs, St. Peter.
