Road users reminded of how to use the D’Arcy Scott & Garfield Sobers Roundabouts

The Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) is ramping up road safety education by reminding road users how to safely navigate the D’Arcy Scott Roundabout in Warrens, St. Michael, and the Garfield Sobers Roundabout in Wildey, St. Michael.

As part of its public education campaign, the Ministry’s Information Unit has produced and shared a step-by-step video on its official YouTube channel, MTW Barbados. The video guide features Senior Technical Officer of MTW, Lorian Graham, who explains how to use the legs and lanes of the roundabouts.

However, illustrated photos of the D’Arcy Scott Roundabout have also been shared on the Ministry’s Facebook and Instagram platforms @mtwbarbados to provide additional guidance.

Road users are reminded to observe the signs and road markings for further guidance when approaching roundabouts.

  • Centre lane – takes you to Hinds Hill only

In the instructional video, Ms. Graham also stated that the Garfield Sobers Roundabout in Wildey, St. Michael, functions similarly to other roundabouts along the ABC Highway, except for the exit at Sargeants Village, Christ Church.

She explained that the left lane allows motorists to turn left onto the ABC Highway towards Graeme Hall, or onto Rendezvous, while the right lane takes motorists onto Wildey and all other exits to the right.

Ms. Graham further provided general safety tips for navigating roundabouts.

  • Motorists are advised to pay attention to the movement of the vehicles in front of them
  • They should check for the speed of traffic and the length of gaps before entering the roundabout
  • and they should be aware of pedestrians who may need to cross the lanes.

MTW thanks persons for their cooperation and encourages road users to use all roundabouts correctly and drive with caution.
