ROAD WORKS ACTIVITIES FOR OCTOBER 14-18, 2024

Road Marking 

The road marking crews of the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) will continue the repainting of Garfield Sobers Roundabout along the ABC Highway and D’arcy Scott Roundabout, Warrens, St. Michael. The crews will also remark the traffic light junction at Westmoreland, St. James. Work will be done Monday to Thursday between 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Motorists are urged to avoid speeding through work areas while road markings are being done as this endangers the lives of workers and damages the freshly painted road markings.

St. Michael – Work on the footpath in Golden Rock, The Pine continues. Slabs have been cast and they need to cure before they can be put in place. Manhole covers repairs in Lightfoot Lane are on hold while work is Tweedside Road has been completed. Work has resumed on the concrete slabs for Hastings. The construction of a slipper and kerb and a new footpath at Long Gap has recommenced. Pothole patching is scheduled for districts.

St. John – Paving in schedule for Wakefield. Masonry works are ongoing at Malvern. Rock cutting will continue at Clifton Hall on the south-western side of the road; utility pole relocation is scheduled to start on the north-eastern side. De-bushing is scheduled for Stewart Hill and  Society Hill. Weeding is scheduled for Bath Hill .

St. Philip –  Construction of a bounce-up continues in Atlantic Park. In Ruby Tenantry, the construction of the slipper and kerb continues. Weeding is scheduled for Fortesque while debushing is planned for Sunbury and Ruby Main Road. Pothole patching will be done throughout the parish.

St. George – Milling and paving are scheduled for Airy Hill and Ruth King Road, while work continues on the short road in Constant Tenantry under the Community Access Road Transformation (CART) Project. Drainage work will be carried out in Walkers; pothole patching is due for Workmans and Ellerton; weeding and de-bushing are scheduled for Bridgecot South, Newbury. Highway 3B and Carmichael.

Christ Church – Concrete works are scheduled for Gibbons Terrace, Sheraton Park and Homestead Circle. Drainage work is being carried out in Maxwell Main Road. Pothole patching is scheduled for Wilcox, Chancery Lane, Long Beach, Inch Marlow and ABC Highway. Debushing will be also carried out at Kingland, Gibbons, Gibbons Boggs and Hopewell. Due to road depressions at Sayers Court, motorists, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, are urged to be cautious while travelling around the small roundabout.

St. Joseph/St. AndrewPersons are reminded not to drive on Swanns Bridge which has been closed due to deterioration. At Swanns, the construction of the culvert is completed however the temporary road is being prepared for an overlay. The road is being reinstated at St. Elizabeth Road following repairs to culvert. Gabion work is also expected to commence in St. Elizabeth. The road at Trio Path is being reinstated and preparations are being made to pave. In Newton Crescent, a section of the road will be oiled and rolled. Manual and mechanical debushing will take place from Cox Hill to Gaggs Hill, the junction of Turner’s Hall to Swanns and Bawdens, Sailor Gully to Indian Ground to Welchtown, The Ridge to Springfield and Russia Gully.

St. Lucy – Work continues on Pie Corner Bridge; the road is closed until further notice. Motorists may divert at Well Road; local access will be granted. The second half of paving  is still to be completed at Maycocks and Date Tree Hill. Work on Well Road No. 2 is soon to be completed under the C.A.R.T Programme. Pot-hole patching and debushing will be done throughout districts.

St. Peter – In Round-de-Town, a drive enterance/culvert; slipper and kerb and manhole repairs will soon to be completed. Pothole patching is being done throughout the parish. Warleigh Road will also be patched this week. Farm Bridge remains closed until further notice; access to the Ronald Mapp Highway from Speightstown, and vice versa, is through Warleigh Road. 

St. James – Manhole covers are being repaired along Highway 1 in  Porters and Holetown. Drainage work is scheduled for Trents and Haynesville.Tree trimming will be done in Holders Hill and mechanical debushing will continue from Lancaster to Trents. Pothole patching is scheduled throughout the districts.

St. Thomas – Drainage work and preparations are being made for paving in Stoney Gully. Watercourse cleaning is being done in Butts. Extensive pothole patching is being carried out in Airy Cot, Hangman Hill and Canefield. De-bushing is scheduled for various districts.

MTW advises pedestrians and motorists to obey traffic wardens, pay attention to signage, and exercise due care and attention when traversing work sites.
