Phase 2 of the rehabilitation of the Wildey Triangle, located along the ABC Highway in St. Michael, has been completely paved.
Executed under the Ministry of Transport and Works’ (MTW) Highway Maintenance Programme, in collaboration with contractor C.O. Williams Construction Ltd., this phase experienced periodic closures due to a few delays. These delays were primarily caused by waterlogged conditions following heavy rainfall, which deteriorated the milled surface, as well as utility upgrades and emergency repairs conducted by the Barbados Water Authority (BWA).
Phase 2, which commenced in early May, extended from the Carter’s General Store to the back of the Courtesy Garage. The work involved milling, deep milling in some areas, and paving. In Phase 1, similar works were completed from the Sol Service Station to the Rubis Service Station.
The Highway Maintenance Programme is a preventative maintenance initiative aimed at protecting the subbase and enhancing the durability of roads with high traffic volumes. Several sections of the ABC Highway have already been rehabilitated under this exercise. These include:
- D’Arcy Scott Roundabout to Welches Roundabout
- Errol Barrow Roundabout (Graeme Hall) to Top Rock Roundabout
- JTC Ramsay Circle (Bussa Roundabout) to BET Hill
- Tom Adams Highway from the Edwy Talma Roundabout to the Kingsland junction by Deighton Griffith Secondary School
Works are being undertaken by B&R Infrastructure Ltd., C.O. Williams Construction Ltd., and Infra Construction Inc., under the supervision of MTW’s representative, Professional Engineering Services Ltd. MTW’s Road Marking team is responsible for painting lane markings along the newly paved roads.
Rehabilitation of the Airport Access Road, from Tom Adams Roundabout to the mini roundabout near the Grantley Adams International Airport, is next on schedule under the programme.
