As the year draws to a close, the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) sub-contractors with the Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Programme, Infra Construction Inc. and C.O. Williams Construction Ltd will be proceeding on their yearly vacation break from December 18 and 19, respectively. However, main contractor with the project – the China National Complete Plant Import and Export Corporation (COMPLANT) – will continue to carry minor works into the new year.
The contractor will clean up and tidy the work sites to ensure some roads are passable or secured until there is completed.
Road users are asked to exercise caution when passing through the worksites or to avoid them where possible. If a road or bridge has been closed, motorists are urged not to attempt to travel on these for their own safety.
MTW’s $230 million project has been progressing, with two roads being paved within the last few weeks. The roads paved were Laynes Bridge, St. Joseph and Highway B2 – Foster’s Funland between Morgan Lewis, St. Andrew and Boscobel, St. Peter.
Over the last few weeks, in collaboration with their subcontractors, paving was also done in Horse Hill, St. Joseph, St. Margarets, St. John, Kings Street, St. Andrew, Mose Bottom, St. Andrew, and Coggins Hill, also in St. Andrew.
When work resumes in January, excavation for gabion work will continue in Trio Path, St. Andrew, Airy Hill, St. Joseph and Bruce Vale, St. Andrew, where bridge work will also be done. Bridge construction will commence at Dark Hole, St. Andrew.
Seventeen roads are presently being rehabilitated under the Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Programme.
MTW’s Paving Unit is also on its yearly break after a very active and productive year, finishing its paving programme with the reinstatement of two .roads. These are Walkers, St. George and Trents in St. Lucy, which were damaged after the recent heavy rainfall in November.(PR/MTW)
