The Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) was handed the keys to the last three of six JCB Pothole Pro Patchers by Inch Cape Barbados in a brief ceremony at their Warrens Headquarters, today. The first three patchers were handed over to MTW earlier last month.
Chief Technical Officer(ag) Jenifer King received the JCB Pothole Pro Patchers on behalf of the Ministry, from Regional Representative for JCB in Barbados, Eric Montero. Ms. King thanked JCB and Inch Cape and said with the new equipment, more work should be taking place.
Six Operators from the Ministry also received certificates, after going through two weeks of intense training with Senior Demonstrator for JCB, Richard Matthews.
Ms. King stated “The guys will be motivated to continue their work, now they have the right equipment. They can now also fulfill their mandate, ensuring that we have our road network where it needs to be; it is not there as yet, but we are working on it. The six Operators who received the training are Roger Maughn, Kevin Alleyne, Glenroy Harper, Otis Taylor, O’Neal Holder and Alvin Husbands.
It is expected that the new Pothole patchers will bring higher levels of efficiency to the way the island addresses the issue of potholes, leading to more enhanced roads.
Regional Representative for JCB in Barbados, Eric Montero, in handing over the equipment to MTW, said: “We are starting a new era on the technology for the service of the country for the continuous improvement of the roads with the latest technology that JCB has to improve the roads. This has been an initiative taken by the Government of Barbados, the Ministry of Transport and Works, to develop and improve the tools and equipment available to give even safer roads and easier to transit.
The six new JCB Pothole Pro Patchers have been purchased by the Ministry of Transport and Works, at a cost of approximately $4 million.(PR/MTW)
