Several urban and rural residential roads across Barbados are set to benefit from much-needed upgrades aimed at improving the road infrastructure, drainage, and accessibility within communities. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Works, Santia Bradshaw gave this assurance during a tour of Eden Lodge, 3rd Avenue Goodland, as well as 1st and 2nd Avenues Park Road in St. Michael, where work was ongoing today, Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Small contractors on the project also spoke about their roads, and highlighted the economic trickle-down gained by working on project such as these.
Residential roads in Barbados to benefit from road improvements
The access road to the Animal Flower Cave in St. Lucy, Barbados has benefitted from improved drainage infrastructure and a complete reconstruction. It was one of three roads in St. Lucy to undergo reconstruction in the first phase of the Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Programme. Find out more in this short update.

The access road to one of Barbados' leading tourist attractions has been improved under the Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Programme. It was one of three roads in St. Lucy to be upgraded under the initiative; work is ongoing at Jemmotts Road and Chance Hill.

The Cottage Vale road will be fully rehabilitated and resurfaced using roller compacted concrete (RCC). Resident of Cottage Vale, Fabian Vaughan, who is one of the main advocates for the St. Philip district, lamented that the road was in poor condition for years. He said he was happy work was about to start.

Construction of concrete road for Cottage Vale, St. Philip starts Wednesday, February 5th Road construction will begin on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Cottage Vale, St. Philip, and when work is finished, residents can expect a durable roller-compacted concrete road that will be smoother and wider with improved drainage.

MTW TO INTENSIFY ROADWORKS OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS Barbadians have been told to expect an increase in road works over the next few months as the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) rolls out an intense maintenance and rehabilitation plan aimed at capitalizing on the dry season. Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Works, Santia Bradshaw made the announcement today, Monday, February 3, 2025, as she toured Chelston Avenue in St. Michael, one of the first roads to benefit under the initiative. The Transport Minister noted that the initial list of roads had been selected based on feedback from the public on social media, from parliamentary representatives, and the Parish Speaks meetings. She added that the Ministry’s technical team and consultants assessed the roads and prioritized them based on the repairs and rehabilitation that needed to be done. Under this programme, small contractors will be utilized in addition to the bigger construction companies. The work will include a combination of mill and pave, drainage improvements, and remedial repairs to sidewalks, manholes, and slipper and kerb. #roadworks #mtwbarbados #millandpave #remedialroadwork
