Residents of St. Thomas in Barbados have been told to expect major improvements to roads in that parish as work got off to a smooth start on the reconstruction of Highway D, which will stretch from Porey Spring via Shop Hill to Cane Garden, at the junction by the Lester Vaughn School.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Works, Santia Bradshaw toured the first section of the roadworks from Content to Dukes this morning, Saturday, January 25, 2025.

Work for the 3.7 km road will be done in sections to minimize disruptions as much as possible.

Craig Archer, Engineering Consultant for MTW from Stonebridge Construction, and Mark Atwell, Director/General Manager of C.O. Williams Construction Ltd., also gave updates on the work.

Acting Prime Minister & Minister of Transport and Works, Santia Bradshaw visited Prior Park Road in St James yesterday, Thursday, January 16, 2025. She gave an update on the project and announced the start of roadworks for Shop Hill, St Thomas.

The General Manager of C.O. Williams Construction, Mark Atwell said the work at Prior Park was progressing despite some delays due to rain late last year.

Both Prior Park Road and Shop Hill are under the Ministry of Transport and Works CAF Programme.

Cane Garden to Bridgefield and Shop Hill to Content in St. Thomas are earmarked for road reconstruction Ahead of the work, Hangman Hill in the central parish will be extensively patched as it has been identified as a temporary diversion route. Reece Road, which is undergoing construction, is also expected to be completed.

Deputy Prime Minister of Barbados and Minister of Transport and Works, Santia Bradshaw made the disclosure on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, following a technical tour with officials from the Ministry of Transport and Works and consultant engineers. The Ministry is taking a “design and build” approach to the construction of both roads.

Minister Bradshaw also visited Prior Park Road in St. James and was pleased with the progress of work.

Prior Park Road, Cane Garden to Bridgefield, and Shop Hill to Content are being done under MTW’s CAF Programme which is funded by the Development Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean.
