After more than a year of inconvenience, residents of St. Joseph are now driving on a new roadway as Laynes Bridge in that parish has now been paved and reopened, under the Ministry of Transport and Works’ (MTW) Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Project.
The Ministry’s contractor the China National Complete Plant Import and Export Corporation (COMPLANT) team, in collaboration with contractor Infra Construction Ltd. had been carrying out extensive road rehabilitation since July 2024, when the road had to be closed.
At Laynes Bridge, the coral stone retaining wall had failed due to the passage of time and the elements. The culvert was also blocked at the entrance, and contained cracks.
Over the past few months, the contractor constructed 971 cubic metres of gabions, built one reinforced concrete culvert, two catch basins, laid 33 metres of spirolite pipe, 175 metres of kerb and 290 metres of asphalt pavement. (PR/MTW)
