Work on phase one of Bath Road in St. John (Highway F) is still progressing smoothly under the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Programme.
The road, which is being paved in sections, was first paved in early December last year, where approximately 400 metres of the 2.3 kilometre stretch was done. A two hundred (200) metre section of road was subsequently paved in April, while another section of road is currently being prepared for paving.
MTW’s Engineering Consultant for the programme Mr. George Holder stated C.O Williams Construction Limited, the subcontractor for the China National Complete Plant Import and Export Corporation (COMPLANT) is carrying out the paving work.
He added they were making good progress largely because there was no need to replace water mains and not many electrical poles were in the way so they had a free working corridor.
However, he disclosed that in addition to road base construction, several culverts crossing along that road were not properly constructed prior to the current construction, and therefore had to be removed and replaced.
The Bath Road project, which commenced in June 2024, will see approximately 6.1kilometres of road way being reconstructed in two phases: phase one will cover 2.3km; while phase two will cover 3.8km.
The Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Project is funded by the Export-Import Bank of China to the sum of Bds$230 million. The contractor, COMPLANT executes the work in collaboration with local construction firms, artisans and engineers.
