After two years of intense road rehabilitation and a few major setbacks, residents of Kings Street, St. Andrew can now drive on a smoother road surface as the first course of asphalt was laid earlier this week, under the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Project.
The team from the China National Complete Plant Import and Export Corporation Limited (COMPLANT) and its contractor, C.O. Williams Construction Ltd. has commenced the paving of the 540-meter road, with the second layer to be laid next week, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
The project which started in May, 2023, has seen the construction of six (6) gabion retaining walls and three (3) major drainage structures.
As work continues on the seventeen (17) roads under MTW’s $230 million Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Project, focus has turned to roads in St. Peter. Work has recently started in Mount Brevitor, where crews have begun constructing footpaths (where necessary) and slipper and kerb. This work is expected to extend to French Village and should encompass approximately 3.1 kilometres of roadway to be rehabilitated.
Along with the stretch of road that is currently under construction in St. Peter, three other roads – Four Hill, Indian Ground/Roebuck and Sailor Gully/Orange Hill are all scheduled to commence in the upcoming months. (PR/MTW)
